What the Siege Marketplace Is
The Siege Marketplace is Ubisoft’s official web-based trading platform for Rainbow Six Siege cosmetic items — weapon skins, charms, uniforms, headgear, and attachment skins. It launched on June 10, 2025, bundled with Siege X, a major relaunch that reshaped the game after a decade, including a shift to a free-to-play model. Rather than relying purely on Alpha Packs or limited-time bundles, the Marketplace let players buy and sell eligible cosmetics directly from other players using R6 Credits, the game’s premium currency.
How It Was Designed to Work
The platform used an order-book system similar to a stock exchange: buyers set the maximum price they were willing to pay, sellers listed items for sale, and the system automatically matched the lowest available asking price against the highest buying offer. Ubisoft charged a 10% fee on completed sales. Trading required a minimum account Clearance Level of 25 and two-factor authentication enabled on the Ubisoft account, and items from the current season were generally locked from trading until the following season released.
Current Status as of August 2026
The Siege Marketplace has been offline since December 27, 2025, following a backend security breach. On June 30, 2026, Ubisoft published an update titled “Marketplace & Economy: A New Direction,” confirming the feature would not be returning anytime soon and could look substantially different if and when it does come back. As of mid-August 2026, that remains the most current official word — Ubisoft has not published a reopening date or committed to restoring the feature in its original form.
Why Ubisoft Shut It Down
Ubisoft’s own explanation cited several serious problems that emerged after launch: the trading system opened the door to account theft, botting, and unauthorized credit transfers, with a significant share of Marketplace transactions reportedly tied to this kind of abuse. Beyond security, Ubisoft also pointed to broader economic distortion — pricing chaos and skewed item circulation that threw off the game’s overall cosmetic economy in ways the original system wasn’t designed to handle.
What Still Works While the Marketplace Is Down
It’s worth emphasizing that only the player-to-player trading layer is affected. Ranked play, the in-game shop, Battle Passes, and every other part of Rainbow Six Siege continue to operate normally. Players can still earn cosmetics through normal gameplay, seasonal content, and Alpha Packs — none of that inventory disappears or becomes unusable during the shutdown; it simply can’t currently be traded with other players through the official platform.
What to Do in the Meantime
For players hoping to use the Marketplace once it returns, the practical advice from most current guides is straightforward: keep playing normally and let cosmetics accumulate, since nothing earned during the downtime is lost or excluded. Confirming Clearance Level 25 and app-based two-factor authentication are already set up means being ready to trade immediately if and when the feature reopens. Because no return date has been announced, spending real money on R6 Credits specifically to speculate on future trading isn’t advisable — any updates will come through Ubisoft’s official Rainbow Six Siege news channels and the in-game roadmap rather than third-party predictions.
A Caution About Third-Party Trading Sites
With the official Marketplace down, some players have looked to third-party skin trading or marketplace sites as a workaround. These operate entirely outside Ubisoft’s systems and terms of service, and using them carries real risk — including potential account bans, since Ubisoft’s terms generally prohibit unauthorized real-money trading of in-game items, along with the standard security risks of sharing account access or payment details with unregulated third-party platforms. The official Marketplace’s core appeal was precisely that it kept trading inside Ubisoft’s own verified, account-linked system; a third-party site can’t replicate that safety even while it claims to fill the same gap.
